‘Main search and rescue’ operation as fishing boat collides with freight ship | NEWSRUX

A “main search and rescue” operation has been launched after a fishing boat collided with a freight ship off the coast of Jersey.

The smaller vessel is believed to have sunk after the crash in St Ouen’s Bay at roughly 5:30am this morning.

“Particles from the fishing boat is within the sea and the vessel is believed to have sunk,” stated Jersey Coastguard.

A lot of native fishing vessels and the RNLI at the moment are concerned within the search, together with two French rescue helicopters and a naval fixed-wing plane, in line with the coastguard.

It was reported by ITV Information {that a} skipper and two members crew have been on board the fishing boat on the time of the crash.

Condor Ferries, whose freight vessel named Commodore Goodwill was concerned within the crash, stated in an announcement that its ship was “concerned in a collision” and that the agency will “totally adjust to any investigation”.

“Goodwill was en route from Guernsey to Jersey on her common crusing when the incident occurred, northwest of Jersey,” stated chief government John Napton.

“The grasp notified the coastguard in Jersey and Goodwill has assisted within the search and rescue. Condor has notified authorities and can totally adjust to any investigation into the incident.”

The freighter was reported to have been carrying 5 passengers, and 24 crew, and its captain is alleged by Condor to have remained “in full command of the vessel”.
