Whitney’s mom, Cissy Houston, recalled the telephone ringing that night time at her house in New Jersey. “After I picked it up, all I may hear was screaming,” she wrote in her 2013 e book Remembering Whitney. “‘Oh, Mommy! It is Nippy! It is Nippy!’ It was my son Gary on the road and he was hysterical.”

When the Grammy-winning gospel singer requested what was incorrect, he replied, “They discovered her!…They discovered her upstairs and I am not going again up there.”

Cissy could not get a clearer clarification from her son, she recalled, and at last she requested if her daughter was lifeless.

“I used to be advised later that I screamed so loudly that the entire constructing will need to have heard me,” Cissy wrote, “however my thoughts was completely clean, apart from one thought: My child was gone.”
